Hungary’s US Ambassador Pays Visit To Debrecen

United States Ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bell has travelled to Debrecen to visit a US company and hold talks with the local mayor. Bell first visited the local industrial park where she held talks with István Herdon, head of Xanga Group which operates the park, before going onto the plant of Texas-based National Instruments, the park’s first investor in 2001.

Budapest’s Museum of Fine Arts has closed yesterday for a three-year reconstruction; upon reopening to visitors in 2018, the institution will be reinvented as part of the new Museum Quarter in the capital’s largest city park Városliget.

The legal procedure to classify Hungarian-style circus horse acrobatics as a Hungaricum has begun, State Secretary for Culture Péter Hoppál announced at the opening of a new show at Budapest’s Metropolitan Grand Circus on 10 January. The State Secretary supports the renewal of the building of the Circus within the Liget Budapest programme.

Budapest’s famous Museum of Fine Arts on Heroes’ Square is to close its doors to visitors for a three-year period of reconstruction. Work on the iconic neo-Renaissance and neo-Classicist building, designed by architects Albert Schickedanz and Ferenc Fülöp Herzog and built between 1900 and 1906, will begin as early as next February.

The upgraded 10 000 forint banknote came into circulation from 1 December, and is likely to be widely available for everyday use from 2015. Old 10 000 forint notes will remain legal tender until a decision is made by the National Bank on their withdrawal.
