After the Hungarian government scrapped the Sunday closings law that prevented retailers from opening on Sundays, the majority of retailers present in Hungary announced that they would open from May 8, while some retailers already opened for business this past Sunday, according to reports.
Report: 85% Support Reopening Stores On Sunday

In a poll conducted recently by online news portal origo.hu, 85% of the siteʼs readers said they support the reopening of stores on Sundays, but government friendly daily Magyar Idők reported today that the increase in payroll resulting from the Sunday reopenings may have to be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices.

Online retailers have registered accelerated growth since the ban on Sunday shopping came into force on March 15, according to a survey by GKI Digital and Árukereso.hu. In the first quarter, retail sales were up 16% year-on-year at Ft 30 billion. Tesco posted an annual 85% rise in online sales between March and May.
